# What’s the minimum wage for servers in Nevada?

**Short answer:** Nevada employers must pay servers the full $12.00 state minimum wage per hour, before tips. There’s no tip credit, so tips can’t be used to reach $12.00, and anything guests leave is extra. Nevada also has no state income tax on wages.

## Nevada at a glance

| Rule | Nevada | Federal |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Minimum wage | $12.00 | Federal: $7.25 |
| Tipped cash wage (paid before tips) | $12.00 | Federal: $2.13 |
| Can tips count toward minimum wage? | No | DOL: No |
| State tax on the federal tips deduction | Nevada has no state income tax on wages. | |

As of the U.S. Department of Labor table revised July 1, 2026. Your city may set a higher rate.

## What’s different in Nevada

Nevada swaps the federal $2.13 arrangement for a flat rule: $12.00 an hour from the employer, and your tips ride on top of it.

The state also has a daily overtime rule that federal law lacks. Per the DOL summary, employees earning less than 1.5 times the state minimum wage are owed premium pay for hours past eight in a single day, as well as past the weekly limit. A long double can cross that line even in a short week, so ask how your employer applies it.

On taxes, the Nevada Department of Taxation says residents don’t pay state tax on income earned from salaries, wages, or similar pay. Federal tax still applies. The May 2025 BLS median for Nevada waiters and waitresses was $12.70 an hour, an employer-supplied estimate that includes reported tips. BLS counted about 42,520 waiters and waitresses working in Nevada that month.

## Example shift

Say you work 6 hours and walk out with $120 in tips (illustrative numbers; use your own).

1. Wages: $12.00 × 6 = **$72.00**.
2. With tips: $72.00 + $120 = **$192.00**, or **$32.00 an hour**.

**What servers earn:** BLS estimates the median hourly wage for waiters and waitresses in Nevada was **$12.70** in May 2025. BLS counts tips in this figure, but the numbers come from employers’ estimates.
