What benefits can servers get in Yukon?

The short answer
In Yukon
| Health coverage (Yukon Health Care Insurance Plan) | New and returning residents wait 3 months for coverage; your old plan covers you meanwhile. Register in person, in Whitehorse at 204 Lambert Street or with a Territorial Agent, with ID and proof of residency such as a Yukon pay stub. A work permit must be valid at least 1 year. |
|---|---|
| Yukon Dental Program | For Yukon Health Care Insurance Plan members with no other dental coverage and gross income of $60,000 or less (individuals) or $90,000 or less with two children. Up to $1,300 a year for cleanings, exams, fillings, X-rays, extractions and in some cases dentures. Coverage ends June 30; reapply each year with your Notice of Assessment. |
| Yukon National Pharmacare Program | Contraceptives and diabetes medications on the Yukon Drug Formulary are free for residents with Yukon health coverage. Enrolment is automatic, and it pays first even if you have private insurance. |
| Chronic Disease and Disability Benefits | Help with prescription drugs and supplies for listed conditions, including asthma, diabetes, ADHD, hypertension and affective disorders. Your doctor applies for you. There’s an annual deductible, and it pays only what other coverage doesn’t. |
| Vacation and vacation pay | Vacation pay of at least 4% of gross wages once you’ve been employed 14 days in a row, and at least 2 weeks of vacation for every completed year. |
| General holidays | 11 a year, including National Indigenous Peoples Day and Discovery Day. With irregular hours, holiday pay is 10% of your wages for the two weeks before the holiday’s week. None is owed in your first 30 calendar days. Work it and you get the overtime rate plus holiday pay, or regular pay and a day off. |
| Sick leave | One unpaid day for each month you’ve worked for the employer, up to 12 days, and you can’t be let go solely for using it. |
| Yukon child benefit | Paid with the Canada Child Benefit: $966 a year per child from July 1, 2026, reduced once adjusted family net income is above $35,000. |

What’s different in Yukon
Yukon runs its own dental plan for uninsured adults, not only for people on social assistance. Once you’re enrolled, you shouldn’t pay anything at the dentist until you pass the $1,300 yearly limit. Coverage runs to June 30, so put reapplying on your calendar each summer.
The territory’s vacation minimum never steps up: the Act gives 4% and two weeks no matter how long you stay. Holiday pay for irregular hours is a flat 10% of your last two weeks of wages, a big number when those were busy weeks. Sick days build up at a day a month. Everything federal is still available here too, like EI sickness benefits.

Still open: Yukon’s Paid Sick Leave Rebate, which paid employers for up to 40 hours of sick leave, was extended only to March 31, 2026, and we found no official page extending it; its program page is gone. The carbon rebate ended with the April 2025 payment.
