What’s different in Massachusetts

Your own medical leave runs longer here than family leave: 20 weeks against 12. For a server recovering from surgery, that’s five months of partial pay rather than three. The benefit year starts the Sunday before your first day off and locks your rate for 52 weeks.

The formula uses your two best-earning quarters in the base period, which helps if your restaurant is seasonal. DFML looks at earnings from every job you held, so a second server job counts toward eligibility. At tax time, the $440-per-child credit has no cap on the number of kids. Plus the federal programs.
